Technology Impact Summit (TIS)

The Technology Impact Summit is a joint initiative of the University of Graz, Graz University of Technology, JOANNEUM RESEARCH and FH JOANNEUM.

As a high-caliber think tank event, it offers a unique platform where current developments and trends are not only presented, but also critically discussed and reflected upon. The aim is to build bridges between science, technology and practical application.

Participation is by personal invitation only. Every year, the summit brings together around 400 international personalities and top decision-makers from politics, business, science and society. This network is complemented by committed students, young entrepreneurs and innovative start-ups. The participants form a community that stays in contact with the summit through further events and content-related impulses and also networks with each other.

The focus is on an intensive exchange about technological developments of the near future – with a clear focus on their concrete impact and benefits for society and the economy. Formats such as Oxford-style debates, lightning talks and the “Impact Gallery”, in which relevant use cases are vividly presented, provide concise and in-depth impetus.

INNOVATIVE formats

#TIS

In addition to inspiring presentations that offer an outlook on technological developments over the next 3 to 5 years and highlight the key effects on various areas, we also use a variety of formats. Our aim is not only to present technological advances, but also to offer a comprehensive analysis of their implementation and their impact on society and the economy.

Oxford-Style Debate

The Oxford-style debate is a special form of discourse characterized by clear structural guidelines, formal speaking times and clearly defined roles for all participants. This debating method promotes precise argumentation, critical thinking and the ability to deliver convincing speeches.

Lightning Talks

In order to make real impact visible, public authorities, companies and organizations present "use cases" and thus show how technological change can be successfully implemented through concrete measures.

Fuckup Night AI

Experts speak openly about their failures in the field of AI and digitalization. These can be both technical and organizational challenges.

Co-Creation (Content Create)

The event program is designed in a participatory manner, ensuring the active involvement of participants to ensure that the topics covered are up to date. Shortly before the summit, participants are given the opportunity to suggest their own topics or choose from the number of topics proposed. The final selection of topics is either made democratically by voting or is determined by the program committee.

Graphic Recording

During presentations, lectures and discussions, key messages, emotions and events
are recorded graphically. A visual log is created in real time, which can be used in a variety of ways during and after the event at
. This ensures that the key messages are remembered for a long time to come.
