Matthias Wendland holds the Chair of Civil Law and Information Law at the University of Graz. His research focuses on IT law and the regulation and certification of AI systems; his interdisciplinary and internationally networked research addresses core issues of information law. He has experience in research and teaching at renowned universities, including Harvard University and the Universities of Heidelberg, Freiburg and Constance, as well as at the LMU Munich. Matthias Wendland is also involved in the development of technical norms and standards, including at Austrian Standards International (Artificial Intelligence working group), and is a partner of the AI certification initiative Trust Your AI.

Since 2019, the journalist has been developing and presenting innovative TV and online programs for young audiences on ORF. Whether the daily children’s news program “ZIB Zack Mini”, the news format “ZIB Magazin”, main evening shows such as “Die große Chance” or LIVE programs such as “Pride Vienna”. Her portfolio also includes the “ORF 1 Freistunde”, “ORF Starmania” social media accounts, the science format “Fannys Friday” and “Meins Reportage” (YouTube channel). Before starting at ORF, she worked for the RTL Group (n-tv, RTL Aktuell, etc.) in Germany and for a few months at the ZDF office in New York City.

Elisabeth Lex is Associate Professor at the Institute for Interactive Systems and Data Science and Dean of Studies for Computational Social Systems at Graz University of Technology. Her expertise includes machine learning, data science, recommender systems and natural language processing. In her research, she focuses on the development and improvement of algorithms and AI systems that enable the processing and analysis of large amounts of data.

Nicholas Katz is a data scientist and project manager at the POLICIES Institute of JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH. He studied “Data and Information Science” at the FH Joanneum and empirical economics at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz and the University of Wollongong (Australia). He has been working at the POLICIES Institute since 2014. His areas of responsibility include the design and implementation of quantitative analyses (econometrics and machine learning), working on issues relating to the labor market, regional development and structural change, as well as data management.
